Dr. Sanju Purohit, is a Visiting Research Fellow (Sustainable Management Practices) at IISD. She is an Associate Professor at Akamai University, USA, and a Research Fellow with the Women Researchers Council at the Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC). Dr. Purohit holds a Doctorate in Geography, Specializing Ecological Studies of Land, Water, and Human Resources within the Desert Ecosystem. With an Academic and Research Career spanning over 2 decades, Dr. Purohit has developed Expertise in Environmental Studies, Environmental Health Hazards, Natural Resource Management, Land Degradation, Demography and Population Studies, Water Resources Management and the impacts of Climate Change. Her work is driven by a Commitment to Sustainable Development and the Conservation of Water Resources, which has significantly influenced Policy Making and Resource Management Strategies.

Prior to her current roles, Dr. Purohit has amassed a wealth of experience as an Educator and Entrepreneur. She has imparted Knowledge on Geography and Environmental Sciences, and has published on various technical papers on Environmental Geography, Sustainable Development, and Resource Management. She is a life member of several national and international geographical and sociological societies and serves as a peer reviewer and editorial board member for multiple renowned journals, including World Water Policy and the Singapore Journal of Tropical Geography. Recognized for her Impactful Research and Contributions to Government Policy Making, Dr. Purohit's work has led to significant advancements in Sustainable Management Practices, Particularly in Water Conservation, Crop Selection, and Population Control in Arid and Semi-arid Regions. Her efforts have been Pivotal in Enhancing the Ecological Balance and Livelihood Sustainability in the Communities She serves.

Dr. Purohit's Ongoing Research interests include the Management of Desert Ecosystems, the Socio-Economic Dimensions of Literacy and Women Empowerment, and the Development of Smart Solutions for Environmental Sustainability. She continues to influence Policy Decisions and foster Resilience against Environmental Challenges through her dedicated Research and Advocacy for Sustainable Development.
